The Legendary Mural: Lilith & Olaf
In September 2015, the artistic duo Ella & Pitr crafted a groundbreaking rooftop mural, titled Lilith & Olaf, for the Nuart Festival in Stavanger, Norway. This masterpiece adorned the industrial landscape of Klepp, Norway, covering an astounding twenty-one thousand square meters, once hailed as the world’s largest outdoor mural.
Inspiration and Symbolism
Drawing from Biblical tales, the mural unveils Lilith, often regarded as Adam’s first wife. The figure of Lilith, representing feminism and autonomy, curled atop the rooftop in a monochromatic portrayal, challenges traditional narratives. Accompanying her is the representation of King Olaf I of Norway, descending from her fingers, symbolizing his historical significance.
The Tale of Lilith & Olaf
King Olaf I, who reigned between 995–1000, is depicted in a symbolic descent from Lilith’s grasp, evoking historical ties to the region. Sources link Olaf’s origins to an islet in Frøylandsvatnet, in proximity to the Block Berge Bygg building, the very site where this monumental mural was conceived.
